Loose Dog Report—01/18/10

Way home, mile 0.5 Waskey Road—a small dog came running out of the group home driveway, barking and chasing me.  Another icebiker confirmed who the dog belonged to, as it had also chased him.  Patti Luckhurst owns the dog.  It was either on this day or another day soon after, that two small dogs came running out from Patti’s driveway. I rode up to the front deck, with the dogs barking and chasing me, leaned my bike up against the snowbank, and knocked on the front door.  A youth answered, and I asked if there was an adult home, and Patti emerged from another room.  She apologized immediately for her dogs chasing me.  When I suggested a running line, she pointed to the one she had, then said that the dogs get away from her or the kids sometimes when they take them outside.  Then they can’t connect them to the running line.  I suggested an outdoor pen, which Patti said she would not put her dogs in a pen.  The dogs continued to bark during this conversation.  Wow, wonder what other challenges she faces if she can’t figure out how to hold onto her dog the 1 1/2 feet between her front door and the running line?
